edit 091809

Both my roommates have moved in. Both are Asian who speak their respective languages (Cantonese and...either another Chinese dialect, Vietnamese..or not) pretty fluently by the looks of it. I...I feel like a failure of an Asian-American.

original
So...I'm officially at school. I've moved into my dorm (triple, private bathroom) and took the bottom bunk bed. I feel kinda bad...ish? First-come first-serve, though, right? -_-;; Hopefully my roommates won't mind too much...

Yeah. So. I guess I'll be hanging around outside tomorrow, buy my books, etc.

Hurrr...it feels weird.

Anime Expo 2009

Fun times, fun times.

Didn't really go to many of the events, and instead remained largely in the Exhibit Hall looking through the booths and Artist Alley...so I guess I missed out on a few things, but overall good. Lots and lots of walking for sure, but yeah...

Watched AX Idol. The contestants were all pretty awesome. Love, love, LOVED the Rurouni Kenshin dubbers.

Bought quite a bit of prints. Especially e1n's awesome One Piece ones. And OP Shanks and Mihawk commissions! One each from e1n, korilin, and Scuttlebutt, Inc. Hehe.

First day of cosplaying as Toph, I got this creepy dude wanting me to sit on his lap. Egh... Still. There were a couple very cute-looking Zukos around, too.

Bought the Samurai Champloo DVD set, hell yes, and a fuckton of yaoi manga. $3 and $5! Best bargains ever.

Er...what else...

Photos? I took some of cosplayers.

But my computer's being fixed by my cousin, so it's gonna be a while before I get repossession of the stupid machine.

In other life news...it's my second week of teaching.

Gawd. I have said more words in the past two weeks than I've ever in a month in high school (exaggeration? I dunno).

I'm glad at that at least the male teachers aren't ugly to look at. Eheh...

Merits a brand-spankin'-new Livejournal entry.

Yes. High school is over.

As much as I want to sound elegant and/or adequately run-on-sentence-y and emotional and poetic and writer-ly, I can't.

Now, there's this fucking huge world out there, waiting for me to fall over on my face and screw up again and again and again.

I can't wait. 8D

Quizzes. Joy...

*sigh* Bored. Thanksgiving break's been beautifully relaxing.

And "Beowulf"? It was...weird. The action, violence, etc. was great, fun, exciting, yay! But the dialogue seemed kind of contrived--too stiff, too unnatural, awkward--and made me laugh when I wasn't supposed to. The CGI was okay...loved the dragon, the pretty blue water, but sometimes the peoples' faces/expressions weren't as...well, expressive as I thought they could be. And demonic high heels? Hilarious. XDD

Your Scholastic Strength Is Evaluating

You are great at looking at many details and putting them all together.
You are talented at detecting subtle trends, accuracy, and managing change.

You should major in:

Statistics
Speech
Conflict studies
Communication
Finance
Medicine

What Should You Major In?

You Are 60% Boyish and 40% Girlish

You are pretty evenly split down the middle - a total eunuch.
Okay, kidding about the eunuch part.
Hmmm...

I liked it.

I don't know how historically accurate it is, but I'm not a stickler for details -- you can't expect too much from Hollywood and Gibson.

It was beautifully shot, though. @_@ And the Mayan pyramid = so cool.

Oh, man. Jaguar Paw... He had pretty cute face >_>;;;

Anyway, yeah...
Going to sleep now.

Wow, what a day...

Saw "Ratatouille" at the Grove today.

Don't have much to say about it... Some of the scenes made me LOL. Linguini was kind of TOO timid; Colette was cool; Remy was cute; Ego was...interesting.

It was far from a bad movie, but it wasn't the most exciting movie either.

What made my mood go sour: too many people (note to self: 12~5 PM Sunday = NOT A GOOD TIME to go the Grove to watch a movie); having to sit in the wayyyy back, saving seats for my mom and brother for 15 agonizing minutes; icky little stupid kids sitting (and standing and bouncing and screaming) in front of and beside me.

Oh well.

My mom's car's battery died while we were at the supermarket. At least it happened there and not at the Grove. Hmm... Spent about an hour on this issue, but got it resolved.

Hahah, that was quite an interesting experience.

Movies, Movies, Movies

Alright...so I've seen a whole bunch of movies in the past two/three weeks -- all but one rented/seen on TV.

Starting with the best/most recent/expensive one...

OMG TRANSFORMERS!!!
I enjoyed that movie very much, even though my bladder needed to stay on hold for at least half the movie.. -_-;;
But anyway. Yeah. Exciting movie. Lots and lots of BOOM!! CRASH! SCREECH!! and yeah. Pretty pretty FX.
I MUST GET THE DVD.

Borat. Watched it with my dad. Ehhh...NOT the best thing to watch with dad. Didn't like it that much, but it was interesting...and gross o_O;;; Well, I guess I enjoyed the gay parade scene...but... Okay, that little tumble b/t Borat and Azamat? *retch* EWWWW FAT MAN. I'm sorry, but really!
Although...Sacha Baron Cohen himself is quite handsome...XD

Aeon Flux was interesting...but not my style interesting. Pretty-girl MC, kinda weird storyline...but pretty special effects/gadgets/scenery.

Starsky & Hutch. Are so gay with each other @_@.
Owen Wilson + Ben Stiller = lovely character interaction.

Dodgeball was funny. I liked it. XDD

Happy Feet was soooo cute.

What else...

Oooh, I got the first part of 해신 (Haeshin/Emperor of the Sea) -- 17 episodes, 6 DVDS, for $60. EEEEEH!!! XDD

And Gundam Wing. It was great seeing those again. And so now I have to concede...Heero looks like he's much more attracted to Relena than to Duo or any other male pilot. *sigh* Still, slash fanfiction for this fandom keeps me happy.

Alright then...

For the past 2 days, I've been having a really annoying headache. Possibly sleeping for 12 hours, then waking up and proceeding to watch 6 hours of television might have contributed, but still...

Brokeback Mountain

Belated comment, but w/e.

So...I got the collector's edition... (Couldn't resist.)

Some additional stuff that the regular one doesn't have, but nothing over the top. In fact, I didn't really take a look at all the special features. (More like couldn't; I can only watch it when none of my family's at home - it's not exactly known that I have the movie in my possession, and I intend to keep it that way - or when they're all asleep. Also, sleep impedes and apathy prevents...)

Er...okay, so...yesh...now the comment on the movie itself...

It's nothing really intelligent or anything, though. And it's kind of long.

I saw it as a tragic story of love, lust, friendship, doomed marriages, and an unbreakable bond between two men that transcends the passing of time and age. Also, it was great M/M slash...homosexuality... @_@.

So...it literally is pretty tragic. In the end. Through the course of the entire movie. Knowing that homosexuality was taboo in society. The lives of the men, women. Economic, marital, societal, class problems. Jeez...it made me sad, basically, and the music (I didn't like the music) and beautiful cinematography didn't help.

Aside from that, I didn't really like the movie as a whole... It just wasn't my ideal type of movie. It was too subdued, little action if any, 'ehh' time period... Just, the atmosphere of the movie wasn't too my tastes. It was, in one word, boring.

But anyway...I really didn't focus on those aspects of the movie... It should be something shameful, but...I'm too shallow and obsessed :].

My attention was pretty much entirely on the homosexual interactions between Ennis and Jack :D. And, holy fuck, it was hot, hot, HOT.

It's really not every day that you see..watch actors (pretty well-known, too, in my book) - MALE, RUGGED, and HANDSOME - go at it with each other. I nearly died of intense giddiness at the first sex scene. Complete with grunting and panting and pushing...and...wait, I'm not really sure anymore... But whatever...@_@ (You can't really see anything, though, you know? A bit too dark, and artfully hidden...)

So, yeah...that, and the KISSING SCENE that I LOVE SO MUCH. Near the middle, I think, during that reunion after 4 (I think) years. Holy fuck that was the hottest kiss I've seen on screen. So much...power and desperation and lust and longing behind it...<333. Plus it's Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal doing it, so...yeah, duh. Was that scene the one where Jake said he almost broke his nose? I haven't done my research, sadly. But...yeah...*siiiiighh* The perfect sort of kiss between two men...

Aaaaaand I think I'm done with my comment.

I should rewatch it.

Whew...good night~

Six Flags and craziness

Is it unrealistic for me to imagine that many (a majority of?) gay men are actually "manly," more than what so many people call "gay"?

*sigh* I'm craving some hot MAN on MAN action.

Need a break from the seme/uke reminiscent-of-heterosexual-copulation anal hole penetration-ness. How about some fighting? grinding and sweaty, snarling, grinning, and absolutely ruggedly hot MALE-y, testosterone-filled alpha-male on alpha-male pr0n/slash/YAOI?

What the hell am I doing posting this here.

In other boring news...

Six Flags Magic Mountain!! Second time fully participating in attractions... One helluva day~!

Fucking exhausting (I'm so not used to near full-day excursions to an amusement park...), but fun. OMGOSH I love Tatsu @_@. And, LOL, Gold Rush(?) operation error! We got to ride twice in a row. That ride strangely makes me all giddy and happy. So...Viper, Tatsu, Roaring Rapids, Colossus, Scream...watched the Batman Begins Stunt Show, no Deja Vu, no X...then Tatsu again XDD. I think that sums up the rides/attractions.

XDD CHESSBOARD PORN!! Oh, the things desperation does to a girl... Knight on knight on bishop on king 8D. Or...I'm content with two knights, actually. And maybe a knight/king? Bishop/knight?! Bishop/king??!!? T-T;;;

I'm hopeless...

Shrek 3

Watched it a few days ago...last Saturday, Memorial Day weekend. Went to the Grove for that.

I haven't watched the 2nd Shrek movie yet...

But anyway...

I don't know... I didn't want to watch Spiderman 3, and this was the only alternative I really had... (It was a family outing, so I had to watch something w/ my mom while bro and dad went to watch Spidey.)

Erm...I didn't find it insanely funny. That's pretty much all that I have about Shrek.

Obsidian Trilogy (not really spoiler-y)

Finished the Obsidian Trilogy (by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory) this afternoon @_@.

I liked the series very much, seeing as I was unable to take my attention from them for the entire week I spent reading the books...except maybe a day--and only until late night--where I forced myself to get some Easter vacation homework done.

Pathetic, is what I'm feeling right now. Pleased, and thrilled, too, just having read the end of the trilogy. But still...I really need to put more effort into reading books ^__^;;. If only I had as much enthusiasm as I did with these books as with others, it'd be so much easier.

I need to find some more good fantasy/action books. Ones that will hold my interest. With pretty/handsome boys/men. Females...I don't mind, but these days, I am strangely not inclined to read books with a woman as the main protagonist. Done enough of that, I guess, while reading Tamora Pierce's Tortallan-verse books a long time ago.

I'm running out of internet fanfics/stuff that I can really enjoy D|.

But back to the Obsidian Trilogy.

EEEEH!!! KELLEN! CILARNEN! KELLEN/CILARNEN! OMG!!!11!1!!
I despair that there isn't a thing I can do about this slash-y fixation ㅠ_ㅠ'''. Writing fanfics and stories in general aren't my thing. I might be able to manage some sort of fanart, but I'm afraid it's probably not going to turn out how I want it to.

I can't remember when I started to look for slashiness in books, but I enjoy it, and often I'm able to find some fan-made slash stuff online. But then there's also times when the opposite happens, and I get all mopey as searches for worthwhile fanfics/stuff produce no results.

I'm not sure why exactly I don't like the canon Kellen/Vestakia :-/. I vaguely found her a bit...I don't know, annoying? or something. LOL, but I know I can't find satisfaction with a lot of het pairings these days. I've been thoroughly corrupted by the forces of slash fiction and art, and I intend to cling to them for a long time.

Jermayan and Ancaladar~ <3. I have to admit, though, Jermayan/Idalia wasn't grating at all. And in the end, things turned out quite okay for them :3.

Anyway, that was really long O_o;;. Now, to dinner...

"The Namesake"

Er...I watched it on Friday, a 7:45 p.m. screening. I think that's the latest I've watched a movie at the theater.

Dad and brother watched "Shooter"...and they liked it a lot (at least, Dad did). XD Typical.

Anyway, the movie...was interesting. I don't have much to say about it. I kind of feel as if it wasn't worth the money, though. Maybe I should've watched "TMNT"? LOL.. I've got to remember to read The Namesake novel. It seems interesting enough, since everyone likes to say that a book is better than its movie.

I can't believe I got to watch 2 movies in a 5-day span o_O 'cuz that's...just awesome. Average is 4 movie theater movies per year. XP

"300"

Well, it's been quite a while, hasn't it? ^_^;;

Anyway, the movie "300"...
It. Was. AWESOME.

I've been hearing a lot about the movie not really having a plot or story, and I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm not really that kind of person when it comes to movies. Movies - those that I watch in theaters - should above all attract attention through visuals. This of course is my point of view.

And wow, "300" was a definite "feast for the eyes" (I remember seeing this phrase somewhere, but I forgot exactly where). Beautiful, beautiful BGs, lovely men, awesome-looking Persian army, lovely CG in general. The music was wonderful, too.

Now, the Spartan men. They alone would make up for anything that lacks in the movie. 300 sets of pecs and 6-packs and lovely thighs, wearing nothing but leather briefs and red capes... *droool*
LOL at Xerxes; he was inhuman XD and oozing gay!undertones.

Leonidas (Butler) was awesome, Dilios (Wenham) was adorable XDD, and Stelios (Fassbender)...*faints* was HOTT~ Theron (West) was quite fine, too.
Slash potential? Leonidas/Dilios, Stelios/Astinos, the entire Spartan band...? XD I wish.

The gore/violence was expected and understandable. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, though. Possibly half (more) of the movie consisted of blood, death, severed limbs, etc. But the slow-mo fighting scenes...beautiful and graceful and just yeah...@_@

The sex scene w/ Leonidas and Gorgo was amusing XDD. That's all I'll say on that matter.

The Oracle was AWESOME, too. So beautifully done, and really surreal.

Sooo...yeah. :D

Pan's Labyrinth

...was quite interesting. Saw it yesterday at Universal City Walk after Lucy's b-day party with five friends who all seemed to really want to watch it.

Beautiful CGs, Pan was absolutely lovely, and the Pale Man was just...so real and creepy as hell that shivers ran up my spine when I saw him move.

Some inconsistencies here and there, the most obvious being that the Captain's shirt should have had a couple large rips after Mercedes (should-be-fatally) stabbed him twice.

Glad about the subtitles. I hate dubs. Though I did understand some of what was being said. <3

It was freaky as hell, though, those fairytale/fantasy creatures, and I felt nearly paralyzed after. I really can't take horror movies that well. v_v;;

It was quite poignant at times, but it wasn't enough to make me shed a couple tears (which happens a lot for other movies/tv dramas, i.e. Titanic, Braveheart, 황진이, and some others I can't remember), only made my eyes sting a bit.

And the Captain's casual violence was quite something...especially at the beginning. That alone warranted the R rating.

Yus... I look forward to the next time we can do something like that. <3

Scarlet Pimpernel

They seek in here,
They seek him there,
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in heaven,
Or is he in hell?
My own elusive pimpernel...

An interesting movie, that. Haven't read the book, though.

Just a random thing to distract me from my project. :D

Mammoth Mountain, CA

I'm back~...

Mammoth was interesting, more so than last year. The highlight of my 3 night/4 day stay there? Getting lost after coming down an Intermediate slope, fricking going up higher than the place we landed first (the gondolas) and having to snowboard horribly down the huge-ass slopes. I'm so bad at snowboarding, even after all the times I've tried... I keep falling (though not on my face, thank god) and I can't really stop using my toes. I go in zigzags, not S-shapes, and...I'm afraid of speeding up because if I do and accidentally make a wrong foot movement, I'll fall hard and so much pain~..I hate pain. ;_;

Other lesser highlights...oh-em-gee, the guys are hilarious and so fucking gay with each other, however much they're fucking around. I mean..*sigh*.. I'm estranged from the world of the majority of my friends. They don't understand how...eh. Well, yeah.

A huge bruise on the inside of my right calf, another on the thight right above that bruise, probably bruised butt, aching arms and legs... But that's not the problem. The problem is my dry-as-paper skin. And easily damaged, too. I haven't used lotion, and on top of the dryness, I kept taking off my gloves on the slopes, so the coldness just destroyed the back of my right hand, my nose, and my cheeks.

R----- is emo, but interesting. R---, I've barely said a word to him. E--- is so...idk, I love his hair. E----- is nice, personality-wise. W---- is quiet. I haven't "bonded" with anyone. It's sad..but w/e. I blame myself for being such a weirdo recluse who likes to watch homosexuality in action, no matter how fake and joking it is... v_v;;

I also visited the Ralph Lauren Polo Factory Store near Mammoth, bought 3 clothes...the register guy was kinda ehh - stupid?...and..yeah...

I need now to do my homework, the bane of my existence. I'll go as far even to say that it is the root of ALL the negative emotions I'm feeling this school year so far.
Biology project has been sorta organized through IM.
Euro... HAHA, I was supposed to read the chapter over the trip, but I got distracted by the boys' antics.
Author project is just T_T
Studying for midterms? I wanna rip my heart out.
Drawing/Painting assignment...grrr...

yesterday's missionary trip

I went on a missionary trip. With a fricking missionary, for God's sake (pardon the pun)! I never thought the day would come. :| But it was fine, the trip. So I'm going to recap.

A few weeks ago, my cousin invited me to a trip to Tijuana, Mexico. I accepted hesitatingly, not fully aware that I might actually need to do work there.

And so Friday comes along. I have a sleepover at my cousin's house, wake up at 5-ish, and head for her Presbyterian church. There, we meet up with her church fellows, and head to some other place with lots of Vietnamese peoples' offices. We have a 예배..worship thingy w/ a few other groups. Of Presbyterians? Or were there other denominations, too..?

Anyway, yeah, we headed to the border starting a bit past 7...I think. I went with a group in a separate van from my cousin or brother. A family of 5 daughters and a son. For a couple or so hours, we rode and rode, with one of the girls talking to me, very outgoing and all. I feel that she's found out a lot about me then. :\

We stopped at Carl's Jr at around 9:30-ish, had some minor problems in the ordering process, and I ate half a nice BBQ Chicken..burger thingy. (Gahh, I can't remember the entire name.) After, we passed the border and arrived at Tijuana in another couple or so hours.

The entire atmosphere there is different from L.A.'s. First, there's a lot less greenery and a lot more dry brown ragged hills and visible desert. Then there's the trash littering every corner of the land. I mean, there seemed to be not one sq. yard of land w/o at least one piece of trash littering it. And the houses... In L.A., either the buildings are tall and poor or rich, or low, 2-story houses that look expensive. While the van passed by, the houses were just...something I can't really imagine L.A. to possess. Tons of old, ugly, small houses packed tightly...the crappy roads... The dogs everywhere, wandering abound, lying down... What I felt as the scenery passed by was...poverty and a heavy sort of hopelessness.

Anyway, first we stopped at this church near a trash dump, and whoo boy..it was a spectacle, that place. Hundreds of seagulls gliding atop the heaps of trash...the odd stench...and those kids playing soccer.

One other prominent thing I noticed was the soccer. Instead of basketball or baseball, it's soccer that seems to dominate. It was odd, and pleasant...I guess. I liked that.

The dogs. I must comment on that. Why do they seem so...complacent? I mean, none of the random stray dogs attempted to sniff around us, or bark at people, or attack... They were relatively...subdued, I guess..? But yeah..interesting. :p

So...after a bit of time touring the trash dump XD we headed to a little school...I think, coupled as a church of sorts. What I did there in short is this: help with setting up/preparing materials for the children to use; observe some Christian preachiness; smell the stench of dogs and tar and manure; feel numb about the whole poverty thing; get a bit too much sun and an acupuncture needle on my head; and go through nearly an hour of "introductions" and a "closing service."

I had Mexican tacos. :D And they were delicious. American Mexican tacos can't compare like whoa. And I had a glass bottle of coca-cola. :)

And so another bit of time to the border, an hour-or-so wait to actually reach the borderline, a yummy churro, and some sleep... And then when we reached the Carl's Jr from before, the meeting place of all the vans, and waited for what seemed like an hour for the last van to come so we could all go eat dinner.

I think I made a new friend or two... *shrug* Both the eldest girls are so outgoing and smart. -_-;; Well...*sigh* we'll see how it all goes.

When the van came, we went to this 순대 place. It took I don't know...an hour and a half to get there from Carl's Jr place? Jesus Christ.

That's pretty much the end. After I ate, I went to my cousin's house to pick up my stuff and went home. Arrived at...10..11, was it? Sleepy like heck. Of course a LOT is missing (I mean, how can a person talk about an entire day like this in just a few hundred/thousand words or so?).

I don't think I'll ever go on a missionary trip again. :)

Now I must get back to all the homework I've pushed aside for two entire days. A.P. Euro notes, Bio lit review, Author Project paragraph, fucking painting... T-T

*sigh*

Well, I spent virtually the entire three-day weekend vegging out in front of the computer, except for today, for a period of 4 or so hours, when I went to the Grove (yay!) to watch "The Prestige" and explore B&N.

The Prestige...was a confusing movie. Maybe it'd have been better if I'd watched "Marie Antoinette" or "Flushed Away" (XD). Anyway, the movie was a bit depressing, but I watched it on the recommendation of a friend. It was good, but...yeah. These days I can't find the kinds of movies I really like. :(

So...I should be finishing up the notes for tomorrow's A.P. Euro test which I've put off too long. *sigh* ㅠ_ㅠ
